Start building every pose by considering which of the three pelvic settings applies to the posture. It is a neutral pelvis, forward pelvis, or backward pelvis. Neutral pelvis postures include Samastithi, Utkatasana, Virabhadrasana A and B, Sirsasana, Baddha Konsana (upright position) and Padmasana.
Forward tilted poses, include all forward bends.
Backward tilted poses, include all backbends.
In this video, I speak about learning to strategize each pose by orienting from your center. Knowing if the pose calls for a neutral, forward, or backward tilted pelvis, can help you learn to orient from your center. Learn to think of every pose as a process of taking some kind of excursion away from the root pose of Samastithi. The set up for each pose begins from a stable, neutral pelvis, and then often the excursion will involve tilting your pelvis either backwards or forwards. Being able to control your pelvis is means learning how to orient your pose from an awakened center.
