This group of Sutras gives a menu of powerful techniques for clearing the field of your mind
when one or more of the nine obstacles are operative within you. Essentially you are
looking to gain the skill to go from a clouded state of mind called Citta Vikshepa to a blessed
or tranquil state of mind called Citta Prasad.
Two examples include:
YS I.33
Teaches you to clear your mind by:
1) Making friends with Sukha-- happiness or ease
2) Having compassion for Dukha—suffering, pain
3) Rejoicing in the presence of Punya—virtue
4) Cultivating indifference and exercising caution in the presence of Apunya—absence of
virtue
YS I.34
Teaches you to bring about a state of Citta Prasad (Tranquility) by practicing Pranayama (
Breath Control)
